Your iPhone 6s does not turn on anymore? Apple fixes it for free

Apple has acknowledged that some iPhone 6s may have a power issue. A free repair program has been set up.

Do you own an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus? So you may be concerned. On October 4, 2019, Apple launched a repair program targeting a sample of defective phones. A priori, some iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are likely to no longer turn on due to a component described as faulty (without further details).

More concretely, these are the latest models produced, as they were assembled between October 2018 and August 2019. To test the eligibility of your iPhone 6s, simply enter its serial number in the field provided for this purpose. Apple says no other iPhone is affected by this glitch.

Free repair for some iPhone 6s

If your iPhone 6s — or iPhone 6s Plus — is affected by the problem, then you will be invited to approach an Apple Store, Apple after-sales service or an authorized service center to have your phone repaired free of charge. “This program covers affected iPhone 6s and 6s Plus for two years following the first retail sale of the product,” says the Cupertino company. Besides, this program does not extend the normal product warranty, compatible with iOS 13 and latest iPhone with a jack port.

Apple's initiative is retroactive: those who have paid for a repair for this problem will be able to obtain a refund. Attention, there may be restrictions related to the country of purchase. Translation: your iPhone 6s acquired in the United States during a weekend in New York may not be repaired in France. This limit does not apply in the European Union, which is always considered as one and the same territory.

Note that this is not the first program of its kind launched this year: a few weeks ago, Apple had to recall Apple Watches whose screen can crack.
