Behind the Scenes of the 2017 World Series of Poker in Photos

(06/09/17 - by Arthur Crowson)

If you're attending the World Series of Poker for the first time, you probably won't notice the change from last year.

Yes, there are still a myriad of poker tables, but the reality is that the WSOP has undergone its most impressive makeover since the Pavilion Room opened years ago.

The Amazon Room, which has long been the figurehead of the WSOP with its televised tables and ESPN facilities, has once again become a poker room like any other.

The Pavilion Room has undergone a major renovation to include a high stakes area and a lounge sponsored by Rozvadov's King's Casino.

We are entering a new era of the WSOP.

No more Poker Kitchen, but a new TV table

The Poker Kitchen disappears from the WSOP after many years. It's hard to say if this "WSOP kitchen" will be missed by players, but at least the menus were varied.

It is replaced by the Miranda Grab & Go (and a few more poker tables) in the Miranda Room. Salads, sandwiches and some hot options will be available.

All dining tables have been moved to the Pavilion. There will also be a hot dog stand there, which seems like a strange idea for a poker room.

But the most radical change is undoubtedly to have moved ESPN's "feature table" to the Brasilia room. This is where all the spotlights will be pointed, with three televised tables and several final tables.

Here are some photos of the new WSOP facilities:

This year, a Lamborghini Gallardo loaned by Exotic Car Rentals welcomes players coming to Rio. The advertising angle? Once eliminated, come take a spin on the track for $399 for all four hours. Trust me, why not.

The Pavilion Room remains the largest room at the WSOP with ample room for cash games, satellites and tournaments. It is also the first room to which the spectators will have access.

New to the 2017 WSOP is the King's Casino-sponsored cash game area. There have always been cash games at the WSOP, but the high-stakes games have never been outstanding. These new facilities could attract some regulars to the Ivey Room at the Aria or the Booby's Room at the Bellagio.

The cash game tables are raised. There is also a televised table in the middle for very high parts.

The King's Casino area also includes a VIP lounge for taking a short break.

Player of the Year Jason Mercier sees his portrait displayed in a corner of the Pavilion. Unfortunately, his dog Marshmallow is not present.

Yes. So there really is a hot dog stand at the WSOP.

Here, the Pavilion Room catering area, on the stage, above the tables.

Here's what's left of the Poker Kitchen. The room is much smaller and has been renamed the Miranda Grab & Go. The All American Dave foodtruck is still available, at the entrance to the Amazon Room.

Here the brand new tournament area of the Miranda Room, with a lot of tables. This is where the Poker Kitchen was.

This year, the stands include vapes, dietary supplements, headphones, hand spinners and phone chargers (lots of phone chargers).

For the first time, unisex toilets are available.

The brand new Brasilia Room is the showcase for the 2017 WSOP. There are ESPN installations, two additional TV tables and a few more tables. This is THE room you'll want to play in.

ESPN facilities still make the Brasilia Room look alien. This is where PokerGO will be streamed.

Without ESPN facilities, the Amazon Room was able to add many tables.

Shipment of tokens for the Amazon Room.

An entry/exit with a very rock look for the 2017 WSOP.

And if you want to compare the changes with 7 years ago, you can (re)take a look at our behind the scenes photo gallery of these same WSOP in 2010!
