Sennheiser launches its most affordable cx more tid wireless

Sennheiser's CX Plus True Wireless headphones aren't the first to offer noise cancellation, but this is the first time the feature has appeared on its more affordable CX range. At $179, the CX Plus is more expensive than the $129 CX True Wireless announced earlier this year, but it's affordable compared to the $300 flagship Momentum True Wireless 2 model.

The new CX Plus True Wireless seem to be part of Sennheiser's ongoing effort to make its audio technology more accessible.

Besides noise cancellation, the CX Plus also includes a Transparent Hearing Mode, which uses its microphones to transmit sound from the outside world when you need to be aware of your surroundings. They feature IPX4 splash water resistance, dual microphones on each earbud, and a total of 24 hours of battery life when the earbuds are charged from the charging case (compared to 27 hours for the CX , cheaper, and 28 hours for Momentum 2). At this price, one would also expect the charging case to offer wireless charging, but this feature is still missing from Sennheiser's wireless lineup.

In terms of codecs, the headphones support SBC, AAC, AptX, and AptX Adaptive. When paired with a compatible phone, this codec should deliver significantly better audio quality than the standard SBC and AAC codecs, or even the regular aptX codec.

You control the headphones with touch controls, which, like the EQ settings, are customizable. Interestingly, according to Sennheiser, the left and right earbuds can be used individually, while only the Momentum 2's right earbud can be used alone.

Affordable headphones

While $179 for a pair of wireless noise canceling headphones is an affordable price for Sennheiser, it's still expensive compared to other brands. Most notably, the recently released Nothing Ear 1 headphones offer noise cancellation for just $99 (although not to the same level of quality as their more expensive competitors).

Sennheiser's CX Plus headphones will go on sale September 28, and will be available in black or white.
