Test of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro: finally good sound!

I liked the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro for...

...Sound quality

Samsung uses two speakers in its headphones, which allows a bidirectional sound with a woofer of 11 millimeters for the bass and a 6.5 millimeter speaker for treble.Unfortunately, Samsung does not specify a range of exact frequencies and is based on the very precise assertion that the sound is "exciting".Of course, the headphones are ultimately a sound question, but technical data remain a good way to compare technical specifications with other models. So let's put the headphones and enter my test playlist.

What Samsung claims the sound quality of its headphones, I found it in the test. The sound of the Galaxy Buds Pro seems very wide and clear. My new favorite song test for headphones, inca roads by Frank Zappa, beautifully separates her many layers and the voice breathes almost in my ear.

The impact of bass on songs like "Xanny" by Billie Eilish is not particularly strong by default.Personally, I really like this because I am absolutely not a bass fanatic.Hip-hop pieces like Bbno $ 's, however, remain fun to listen to, and you can increase the bass significantly thanks to the equalizer integrated into the application if you wish.

Overall, however, I think it is in the most complex pieces where the Galaxy Buds Pro shine. Here, the headphones stand out on individual instruments and do not leave the treble and the mediums drowning in punchy bass.Only the position in the ear has an effect on sound quality, but I will tell you more about it later.

...ANC and transparency mode

Test des Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro: Enfin du bon son!

Personally, I found that the active noise reduction was better than that of the intra-ear headphones.Passive insulation, as well as active reduction, give you an effect as if you dive your head in the water in the middle of the noise of the city of Berlin, where I live.

Of the three levels of anc of the Galaxy Buds Pro, I mainly used the highest by listening to music.Of course, if you stop music, the ambient noise becomes a little more audible. What is good, however, is that I have not heard background noise, as was the case with the cheaper Soundcore models. At the same time, I did not feel any pressure, as it is so often the case with the old.

For my 5G test with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T, I crossed Berlin in winter with the Galaxy Buds Pro in the ears. Now, before calling the police, since it's totally dangerous, let me tell you about the transparency mode. This system makes it possible to reduce exterior noise in three stages by external microphones to your ear. This can be very effective depending on your settings and, above all, very instantly.

It took me a lot of effort to lead conversations in this way and I was able to hear the person with whom I was talking about when the music was disabled. The mode of transparency can be activated if you wish by holding down the headphones and provides a maximum volume an almost psychedelic sound perception. As if I had tasted a little MDMA before work, I stayed in my living room and I listened carefully to the sounds that were audible in the environment and wearing my clothes.

...The quality of the microphones for calls

The person I was talking about was also very audible when I gave myself up to my last hobby during the test: calling in hands with headphones. The voice of my interlocutor was natural and clear, and my voice would also have been excellent through the Galaxy Buds Pro.Speaking to my father of the Galaxy S21+, he praised the quality of call for the smartphone and even rented the Galaxy Buds Pro which were in my ears.

...The set of characteristics

Before the Unpacked event where Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Buds Pro as well as the new S21 models, there were already rumors on the new features.Among others, Samsung has integrated 3D sound into its True Wireless headphones, a feature that Apple recently integrated into the new AirPods Max.

For example, if you watch a film on Netflix with them and turn your head, the virtual audio source will always remain your smartphone. The audio will automatically turn to the right when you turn your head to the left.It works well and gives a slightly more spatialized sound impression. After the initial wow effect, however, the function quickly becomes gadget.I deactivated it at some point, because the sound bored me when I put the smartphone away.

More useful is the automatic detection of your voice when you start talking with the activated ANC and music plays.Recognition is quite reliable and after a few trials, you are confidently approaching the supermarket box and put the mute music with a "hello".

You can also hum if you prefer.Or, and here is a mixture of embarrassing confession and criticism, you can sing!Because I also disabled this function, after being constantly confronted with my own voice as an amateur singer while listening to music in the apartment.

I also want to mention the reading function of notifications aloud (possibly deactivated, because the robotic voice is annoying) and "find my headphones" (very practical, but not very effective with most devices, because there must beA UWB chip for that).

I was particularly satisfied with the announcement made by Samsung that the Galaxy Buds Pro supports multipoints. In principle, it is therefore possible to connect for example two smartphones at the same time, and it is incredibly practical with my soundcore life Q30.But looking more closely, I have to consider this as a negative point.I'll explain why.
