This Thursday, during a conference, Fairphone presented its latest smartphone, the Fairphone 4. As usual, the Dutch manufacturer largely highlighted its ethical and ecological model with a repairability score of 9 ,3/10 and a five-year warranty. But it was not the only novelty presented by the manufacturer. Fairphone also unveiled its first wireless headphones, the Fairphone TWS.

Of course, Fairphone highlights the ecological aspect of its true wireless headphones, indicating that they are made of 30% recycled plastic and that the gold used for the electronic components comes from fair trade. However, unlike the smartphone, the headphones are not designed to be disassembled, not even the battery. It must be said that wireless headphones are currently among the most difficult products to assemble. It is therefore particularly difficult to dismantle them to replace the accumulator.

A battery designed to last twice as long

Regarding the battery precisely, Fairphone has integrated a block of 45 mAh in each earphone and 500 mAh in the charging box. If the Dutch manufacturer does not give an estimate of the autonomy, it nevertheless indicates that the batteries have been designed to last over time: "We have found a solution to the short battery life of most headphones without wire available in the market. By adapting the charging speed of the charging case and earbuds, we are sure that our True Wireless earbuds will last twice as long.” So even if the battery cannot be replaced, it has been designed to last longer than a more traditional wireless earphone battery, without Fairphone detailing this technology.

On the audio quality side, the headphones have dynamic drivers of 10 mm in diameter and compatibility with Bluetooth 5.3. Fairphone does not specify the compatible codecs, so we can reasonably assume that its TWS only work in SBC or AAC. They nevertheless benefit from an active noise reduction function thanks to the integration of two noise cancellation microphones.

Finally, to complete the durable aspect of its headphones, Fairphone has had them certified IPX4. Enough to provide protection against splashes and in particular rain or perspiration.

The Fairphone True Wireless headphones are offered on the manufacturer's website at a price of 99.95 euros. They are only available in matte black and come with three pairs of silicone tips.
