On s’attendait à détester, mais on est finalement restés scotchés devant Dexter : New Blood.

A crushed mosquito, close shave, a piece of devoured red meat and a hurried grapefruit: Dexter credits have permanently marked the imagination of the 2000s.

With this new case, sublimated by an aerial staging, Dexter: New Blood can cheerfully draw from many references of the genre.Twin Peaks or Fargo are thus summoned, for their icy aesthetics and their investigations in peaceful terrain, apparently.

If the first episode may suggest that Dexter is now a reliable boyfriend and a friendly neighbor, the continuation quickly brings the spectator back to the murderous habits of the character.And the voiceover, absent at the start, quickly returns with its cult lines, to caught us and leave us stuck in front of our screen.

A slightly messy scenario

However, during the six episodes we were able to view, the series is lost in inconsistencies and situations worthy of a bad Soap Opera.Clearly, writing suffers from a few weaknesses and is not up to the first seasons of Dexter.All current social subjects pass, from podcasts to global warming, in a jumble that smells of warming.

This time, our favorite serial killer is no longer guided by his father, Harry, but by his sister, Debra (brilliant Jennifer Carpenter), who appears from the first minutes.It is she who becomes her "black passenger", as Dexter calls her, and who questions her actions, good or bad.This imaginary presence brings a hint of humor to the series, with offbeat sequences which allow you to offer a welcome relaxation, in the middle of all this darkness.

We were skeptical, it is not possible to say, by learning that Dexter was going to redo a lap.However, this derived series - which could have been a ninth season - manages to captivate its audience.If you have to be a fan to understand New Blood in its entirety, this sequel takes up cult characters with malice, to better manhandle them in an icy climate.

With a darker aesthetic, much less vibrant than Miami's sun, Dexter: New Blood takes the opposite of the original series.The intrigues are sometimes muddled, even useless, but this thriller still succeeds: keep us going with cliffhangers more and more engaging.And basically, this is the minimum that he is asked to spend a sharp evening.
