Happy cat owners know it well: when the animal is in the mood, its purrs are an extraordinary tool for relaxing, fighting stress or even meditating. But here, the main thing is the will of the feline, which comes to purr with you when it suits him, not when you want it.

Alternatively, RonRon is a new app that reproduces a purr on demand and above all without discussion. Created by a French developer, it reproduces the purring of different cats in two different ways. The sound of course is played through the speaker of the iPhone, but the app also reproduces the movements of the animal by exploiting the Taptic Engine present in all smartphones designed by Apple since the iPhone 7.

The combination of sound and vibration produces a very pleasant sensation that is indeed reminiscent of the purring of a cat. The developer recommends lying down and laying the iPhone on your chest or stomach for the best effect and I can attest that it works well (watch out for the nap urge that comes quickly… 🙀). You can also use RonRon without the Taptic Engine, the app being compatible with all iPhones from iOS 13, but the experience will be less realistic.

RonRon is free to download with only one virtual chat available, others can be unlocked with a one-time in-app purchase of €1.99. Even if the purrs are different from one virtual cat to another, the basic one may be enough. In any case, it is enough to get an idea of what the app is worth and to decide if it can replace a four-legged friend, at least when the latter is more motivated by his nap or his bowl.

Even if the developer is French, the first version is only available in English. The interface is simple enough that this won't be a problem, but the French translation will arrive quickly.
