Design: appreciated efforts

Even if it does not renew the genre, neo2 GT has the merit of offering a little originality. That we are not mistaken: it is above all a classic smartphone, but the use of premium materials and little -seen colors bring a little freshness in a rather uniform universe.

On the face side, nothing overwhelming. The screen occupies the vast majority of the available space. It is surrounded by fine black borders, discreet enough to be quickly forgotten.Neo2 GT hosts under its tile Amoled an optical fingerprint reader that we consider reliable and efficient. The front camera takes place in a punch housed in its upper left corner.

The GT Neo2 chassis is made of good quality metal.Unsurprisingly, he hosts the sound control keys on the left flank and that of switching on the right. The underside groups perforations to let the sound pass, a nanosim card drawer and the now traditional USB-C connector. The ancient Audio Jack output 3.5 mm is absent subscribers, which will desperate lovers of oldries.

The rear side is covered with a glass sheet protecting a pleasant reflections coating. We have received for this test the green version, the particularity of which is to be crossed by two brilliant black bands. The thickest displays the brand name at its base. The finest repeats the envy the house mantra "dare to leap" (which can be translated by "dare take the plunge" or "dare to get started")))).

Described like this, this design can be cold in the back, especially when you remember what the manufacturer had done with the realme 8 and realme 8 pro ... In fact, the result turns out to be successful, or even very successful. And to be honest, we enjoyed taking the device in hand for this test. The silky touch of the glass surface turns out to be both pleasant and above all completely insensitive to fingerprints.

The back camera adopts the now classic Domino slightly protuberant. The handling turns out to be comfortable and the mechanical keys fall well under the fingers, even if the GT Neo2 is a bit too big to be handled with one hand.

Composed of qualitative materials and having excellent finish, the GT NEO2 is a pleasant product that we will have fun using daily. If the green version (elegantly pulling on yellow)) does not go unnoticed, we can opt for the blue declination with magnificent colorful reflections or for more classic black. We could almost talk about flawless if the GT Neo2 benefited from an IP certification ... but we cannot have everything!

Écran : comme un (très)) grand

The GT NEO2 screen consists of an AMOLED slab of 6.62 ’’ diagonal displaying 1080 x 2400 pixels and covers 92.6 % of the front.Realme specifies that it uses a new light material called E4.In other words, this is the latest generation of screens that Samsung intends to its customers other than Apple and Samsung Mobile. The apple benefits from LPTO slabs while the Korean reserves the slabs of the M series, positioned at the top of the range.

Concretely, this screen produces an image whose brightness can reach 1,300 maximum nits, in direct sunlight if the automatic adjustment of light intensity is activated. The refresh frequency rises to 120 Hz and ensures a highly fluidity display. In order to save the battery, Realme had the excellent idea of offering a dynamic refresh adjustment mode, activated by default.

Test realme GT Neo2 : est-il le véritable flagship killer de cette fin d'année 2021 ?

Colorimetric fidelity is there provided that the parameters are adjusted a little.By default, the colors are a little boosted in order to make the image more flattering to the eye (especially in video)).We can correct this by going from the "lively" mode to "sweet", in our opinion closer to reality. If necessary, we can also adjust the white point to make the display colder or hotter depending on its tastes.

HDR10+ certification authorizes compatible content to express their potential. The others will be able to take advantage of the optimizations provided by the O1 Ultra Vision display engine (improvement of the display for declining content and HDR simulation content)).

Whether it's fixed or animated images, the GT Neo2 will satisfy its owner by the quality of its display. We appreciate the very good fluidity of the display and the very satisfactory contrast provided by the E4 slab.

Audio: in the average, nothing more

The internal audio consists of two speakers: one is at the base of the smartphone while the other takes place on the upper part (it also acts as a telephone earphone)).We did not do too much illusion on the overall sound quality, the low volume dedicated to speakers in a smartphone as fine that does not make miracles.

Realme GT NEO2 - © Marc Mitrani pour Clubic

If the bass is underseparized surprises, they are not completely nonexistent. The mediums are clear and high frequencies are a little too invasive to our taste. The result will not delight a music lover, but remains listening as part of traditional use (podcasts, short videos, etc.)).

The spatialization of the scene is not extraordinary either, but is this really a problem on this type of device? We are not sure. Finally, the absence of an audio output Jack forces to go through a USB-C adapter or by Bluetooth headphones.

If the GT NEO2 does not shine exceptionally by the quality of the internal audio, it also does not have to be ashamed. It remains in the right average of what competition can produce on such a thick product.

Good performances, especially at stake

The GT NEO2 is built around a Snapdragon 870 5G.We have already met this SOC, designed to provide an affordable entry point in the Premium range of Qualcomm. To design it, the founder did not reinvent the powder since it is above all an update version of the Snapdragon 865, star of last year.

He is assisted by an Adreno 650 and 12 GB graphic circuit of working memory. Finally, internal storage consists of 256 GB of Flash UFS 3 memory.1 without possibility of extension.

In theory, these technical characteristics suggest very good performances. This is what our tests confirm. With a score of 729,660 points at the Benchmark Antutu, the GT NEO2 offers the necessary calculation power in order to carry out the most demanding tasks. This result is confirmed by the 3203 points obtained with Geekbench 5 in multicœur mode (1016 points in monocurence)).The Adreno 650 obtains 4,217 points at the 3DMARK Mobile Wild Life testing evaluating graphical processor capabilities.

Consequently, we will not be surprised that the GT NEO2 is quite capable of operating 3D games like Geshin Impact or Call of Duty Mobile with a high level of detail without undergoing slowdown. On this subject, we will take advantage of the play space, a utility proposed by Realme. In addition to a priority allocation of resources, it authorizes advanced management of notifications and all the small things that could disturb you during a fun session.

Video editing, photographic retouching or software handling 3D also run with great fluidity. The 12 GB of working memory authorize the fluid passage from one application to another, without having to activate the dynamic extension of the RAM.This device allows you to add up to 7 GB of virtual RAM - drawn from flash storage memory - to improve performance.

In practice, we have never met a situation where this device would be effective. This does not mean that it is not ... but that with 12 GB of RAM, we are currently safe from need!

A word to finish on the thermal dissipation mechanism, of which Realme boasts efficiency with impressive technical arguments (conductive paste with diamond powder, large copper alloy and stainless steel alloy)).Here too, we will not go into technical details, because ultimately only the result counts.

During our tests, the GT NEO2 never overheated more than reason. The device often seemed warm, or even a little hot when prolonged use.But it has never become burning as some smartphones can be.

Without being the most powerful smartphone of the moment, the GT NEO2 offers more power than necessary to operate the most demanding software. We also appreciate the large capacity of internal storage which makes you forget the absence of a micro SD card location.

Very fast load and satisfactory autonomy

The GT Neo2 has a 5000 mAh battery.Or rather two of 2500 mAh, which ultimately amounts to the same, except on a detail of importance ... to a big detail.

This duality authorizes the implementation of Superdart technology, allowing the simultaneous load of the two accumulators and therefore a drastic reduction in the duration of the operation.Realme thus promises a passage from 0 to 100 % autonomy in 36 minutes. We have of course wanted to verify this and our tests demonstrate that the manufacturer is not exaggerating since it took us 37 minutes to perform the operation (0 %battery, load made smartphone off)).

Superdart is certainly not a novelty, Realme implementing it for a few years on his products. In order to work, it is imperative to use the 65 watt charger and the cable provided, both with essential control devices so as not to damage the smartphone.Without one of these two elements, the load is carried out at slow speed (10 watts)).

Once full, the battery offers more than satisfactory autonomy. In geek mode, we can exceed 1.5 days without worrying about finding an electrical outlet. In reasoned use, we reach two days of use.We can even earn a few hours by activating integrated energy saving devices and deactivating certain secondary functions (Always O display, vocal activation, gestures on the off screen, etc..))

With a quick charge speed and good autonomy, the GT NEO2 will be able to follow its owner during its working days or end -of -weekends.In the end, we only regret the absence of the charge by induction. If it is not essential, it renders many services, especially on the move.

An effective and fluid bone

At launch, the GT Neo2 comes with Android 11 and the Realmeui 2 overlayer.0.The manufacturer told us that the up to date to Android 12 was planned and that it should "arrive quickly" without more precision.

We are not going to dwell on the measure on Realme UI 2.0 which we have already told you about during the Realme 8, 8 Pro, GT and GT Master Edition tests. We can also refer to the tests of Find X3 Pro, Neo and Lite as well as those of the Reno6 and Reno 6 Pro of Oppo. The latter uses Coloros 11, twin overlay of Realmeui 2.0, the main difference between the two being for the moment the surname.

That we baptize it realmeui 2.0 or Coloros 11, the overlay is undoubtedly possible a success.Ell keep the fluidity and mind of Android 11 Stock, while correcting certain gaps.We can for example keep the traditional presentation of applications in drawer or opt for a paginé mode. The personalization of icons is most simply carried out in the world thanks to a very successful interface.

Good point also for the clone function which creates a virtual smartphone in order to create a waterproof partition between personal life and work.Another subject of satisfaction, the simple but effective management of multifencing or the sidebar allowing to add the applications most often used.

We understood this, we are fans of Realmeui/Coloros, one of the rare overlay capable of competing with the simplicity of Android Stock or with the very successful one equipping the Samsung smartphones.

Photography: Middle in all respects

During the presentation to the press of the GT Neo2, Realme France completely passed over in silence the possibilities of his photo part. When we were surprised, we were told that we were rather focusing on the specificities specific to the newcomer ...

Realme GT NEO2 - © Marc Mitrani pour Clubic

Examination of the technical sheet makes it possible to understand this lack of eagerness a little better about one of the most used functions. Thus, the back camera of the GT Neo2 has three modules:

La caméra frontale est quant à elle constituée d’un capteur 16 Mpxl (1/3'', photosites 1 μm)) et d’un objectif (26 mm f/2,5)).

These characteristics are exactly the ones we have already seen on Realme GT, and more generally on many mid -range smartphones marketed since the end of 2020.The Grand-Angle module produces 16 mpxl images thanks to the pixel binning (the photosites of the sensor are grouped in a matrix of 2x2, each producing a pixel of the final image)).

In a way, we can only be admirable before Realme's consistency in photographic matters. Not content with providing the GT NEO2 with the same material as the GT, the manufacturer copies the signal processing part.Result, it is almost impossible to make the difference between the images produced by the two smartphones as they are close.

We thus find the boost inflicted in colors to make the image more flattering to the eye.We do not blame specially really for this, since this practice is common to almost all manufacturers.More annoying, colorimetry varies surprisingly between the images produced by the ultra-angle and the main sensor.

Selon le module utilisé, la colorimétrie change notablement

The first has an annoying tendency to represent the cyan while the second likes the magenta. It goes well on everyday photos, those that we are going to share on social networks. But if you want to archive or print them, a passage through retouching software is essential.

The objective of the ultra-angle module lacks dive on the edges of the image. We see on the contrasting zones the presence of artifacts linked to the diffraction (purple fringes)).

If we except the colorimetric problem, the main module gives overall satisfaction in good light as long as we do not venture beyond the 2x zoom.At the greater magnification, the loss of dive remains tolerable up to 5x provided that you do not attach to the finest details.

The portrait mode is rather well done from the creation of an artificial background blur and rarely lets itself be trapped on the complex scenes. As usual, we regret that it is not possible to modify it after the shooting, the device obviously not saving the depth card of field.

In low light, even at nightfall, the shot images are correct with the main module. The digital noise, which ruthlessly devours the details as the brightness decreases, is amplified by the zoom.We will avoid as much as possible to use it.

Ultra grand-angleModule principal Zoom x2Zoom x5Zoom x10Zoom x20

Finally, the macro module does what it can to produce correct images despite the absence of autofocus. It will take a serious training in order to produce clear images, knowing that you have to position yourself 40 mm from the subject to hope for the absence of blurring. It is not helped by the presence of a 2 MP -MP sensor, de facto lesing the final image.

Le mode ultra-macro demande un minimum de pratique afin de produire des images correctes.

In photographic matters, Realme GT Neo2 is neither a disaster, nor a success. It produces globally average images.Of course, we would have liked it to be more successful ... but Realme must have made technical choices in order to keep a reasonable price. As we understand, users for whom image quality is essential may be a little disappointed.Difficult, however, to hold it against the manufacturer, especially with regard to the price practiced.

Realme GT NEO2: Clubic opinion

Very similar to the GT announced last June, the GT NEO2 has a slightly larger screen, better autonomy and a slightly lower -end processor. It also differs from its predecessor by a more assertive - and successful design - as well as a pleasant design. No revolution on the photographic side, the configuration of the reminders remaining strictly identical.

And the price, in all of this?He is no doubt about it very aggressive, at least at launch. We can acquire it for € 369 in 8 GB RAM/128 GB version and € 449 in 12 GB RAM/256 GB.This very interesting price is only temporary, the official prices of the two variations being respectively € 469 and € 549.

Ultimately, there is no shortage of GT NEO2 compared to high-end products that it competes: a more qualitative camera, IP certification as well as induction load.We gladly forgive him for these small weaknesses in view of his price.

Realme GT NEO2

8

Imperturbably, Realme chains smartphones announcements.GT NEO2 is surely one of the most attractive in the GT family. In addition to a refreshing design, it has good autonomy, fast charging and an excellent quality screen. At this price level, the relative weakness of the photographic part remains forgiven.
