iOS 15.2: Here's how to reset a locked iPhone without PC or Mac

If your iPhone is malfunctioning and you can't unlock it anymore, or if you've forgotten your passcode, there's a new way to reset it.

The latest update to iOS, the iPhone operating system, is here. iOS 15.2 brings its share of new features and one of them is to be able to reset a locked iPhone or iPad without the need to go through a Windows PC or a Mac.

Until now, there were two scenarios, still valid by the way, for erasing data from an iPhone:

In short, it was not very practical if your iPhone starts to bug strongly or you can no longer unlock it, and you don't have a PC nearby.

An internet connection is sufficient

As 9to5Mac points out, iOS 15.2 now offers a third way.

With this option, all you need is an internet connection to reset a locked iPhone. After a few unsuccessful attempts to enter your passcode, an "Erase iPhone" option should appear. You will only have to enter your Apple ID to unlink it from your iPhone. The Apple smartphone should then reset itself, erasing all your data in the process.

Going through an identifier secures the operation and prevents anyone other than you from resetting it for you, whether by accident or voluntarily.

On the other hand, without an Internet connection, this identification step will not work.
