The mobile payment system that Apple should present in the wake of NFC support in the iPhone 6 and the iWatch begins to take shape , according to the indiscretions of 9To5 Mac, and this one involves iBeacon. A good part of the American Apple Stores would thus have replaced their old iBeacon beacons with Proximity Beacons Series 20 models from Gimbal.

These terminals are more precise than existing ones, a function that could be used in the context of contactless payment via NFC: greater precision of iBeacon would ensure better reliability of NFC payment, the POS (Point of Sale, payment point) that can ensure that it is indeed the "right" iPhone that is about to make the payment. However, since NFC requires pairing with the payment system (by "tapping" the iPhone with the payment terminal, for example), it's hard to see what this precision would bring more... if not better notifications.

While Apple Stores have therefore installed new iBeacon terminals, the site reports — without confirming — that Apple is preparing its own iBeacon sensor, which would therefore be installed in its stores and which could be offered to businesses that want to use the Apple's wireless payment system. It would be a kind of "carrot" to encourage stores to provide payment support via iPhone or iWatch. The object, the size of a small hockey puck, would hide under its white shell a rechargeable battery and a micro USB port. It's not the first time we've heard of this device, which already appeared in the form of a patent in mid-July (read: An iBeacon terminal signed Apple).

The site also indicates that Apple Stores and Disney stores are now using POS with NFC support. The pieces of the puzzle of Apple's contactless payment system therefore seem to be coming together, Apple being able to rely on the experience gained from iBeacon, a technology which will obviously play a role in this new market in which Apple wants to s 'impose. After signing with the major credit card companies, Apple signed a partnership with the Nordstrom chain of stores, as well as the CVS and Walgreens drugstore networks.

Will it be only in Europe or also in Europe? That is the question. Does this mean that we keep banking data on our iPhone? What about the pin? I know there is Touch ID but it is not very reassuring to have the contact details somewhere in memory. For the Pin which is not necessarily very used in the US it will not make a big difference to them.

@mirando:I believe there is a small problem in your first sentence. ^^ If Apple feels ready, it would be silly to turn its back on Europe, payment by smartphone being in full expansion. In a few years, it will already be too late, even if your name is Apple!

As for banking data, Apple already holds our valuable information on its servers. That's how you can buy on the iTunes Store and the AppStore...

Which bank details do you keep on your iPhone?

It will be with Touch ID. No Pin.

And it will charge your iTunes account.

Apple kindly keeps your credit card.

thierry37 |

@thierry37:... Your bank card

Tom.P |

And why do you need an NFC terminal? Employee iPhones could not be used as a pairing point directly? Wouldn't that be even easier?

@Tom.P: Technically, your idea is rubbish, it looks like a bill from our Socialist Monarch, something that has the base is poorly designed, technically inconceivable and above all stupid

xaviyeah |

@administrator: Instead of saying it's stupid, it would be better to say why it's stupid. I find the idea not bad and will change my mind at the limit if someone tells me how it is not feasible... In the end, nothing is stupid but your comment. What is our "socialist monarch" doing here? What relationship between the PSC and the President of the Republic?

Allan Z |

@Tom.P: For speed, and above all for safety I think.

But if Apple plans to integrate NFC technology in its next iPhone, it is not to be able to pay only in Apple Stores. Their goal will surely be to extend contactless payment to all professionals around the world.

proximity |

The ideal would be to pay with a possible nfc iwatch and the iphone in your pocket as a relay.

AllanZ |

This is surely what Apple has planned. :)

The ideal would have been to have a SIM card slot in the iWatch, so that it would be more autonomous. But paying for a second subscription would be expensive and autonomy would take a big hit.

Yes, it seems to me that there would already be Mc Donald who would be ready to work with them...

We can make transfers between individuals I suppose :-)

Now there is more to sell Mac Minis to the administration;)

The banks are going to do the gu..... More than the Swiss watchmakersHowever, if this is the case, Apple is embarking on a new business with new risks When I pay with my credit card, the merchant is guaranteed to be paid (he pays fixed and variable costs for this on the transaction) and in some cases I benefit from insurance (cancellation, theft, etc.) with a gold or a premium for example

DG33 |

@iouze: Yes, the bankers are going to have their suits cut (which is why the fashion world is invited to the keynote). details of places, dates and amounts spent, and they will lose their percentage on those transactions.

ddrmysti |

I think that's why apple signed with visa, mastercard, american express and all the gang, so that the terminal behaves like a credit card the brand, to offer the same benefits to merchants as if the customer had his card in his hands.
