An iPhone 6 a little too flexible | The echoes

Flexible smartphones are shaping up to be the next revolution. But Apple seems to have taken - unintentionally - a little too far ahead on the subject... For a few hours, the web has been buzzing with a rumor, fueled by numerous testimonials, photos in support: the new iPhone 6 would tend to bend when stored in a trouser pocket.

This weakness is particularly encountered with the iPhone 6 Plus, the large-format version of Apple's latest product. This "bendgate", as the incident is nicknamed, is taken seriously enough that specialized sites recommend that iPhone 6 owners avoid storing their precious smartphone in their pocket.

In question, apparently? The aluminum shell of the smartphone, a resistant but relatively flexible metal. To find out for sure, the site specializing in consumer products Unbox Therapy had fun bending the iPhone 6 Plus. The video is quite eloquent: we see the XXL smartphone twisting in the hands of the tester. The latter then points out that while trying to straighten it, he slightly broke the screen and the edge of the shell of his phone.

It would seem that unhappy users can now exchange their bent iPhone in the Apple store for a brand new one, provided that the twist is indeed accidental. In any case, this is what emerges from a chat between TheNextWeb and an Apple support employee, which indicates that the firm takes the " bendgate " very seriously, without however having communicated officially on the subject.

Unbox Therapy has also subjected the Galaxy Note 3 to its destructive hands, with a screen size almost identical to that of the iPhone 6 Plus but equipped with a plastic shell. Verdict: the Samsung phablet bends between his fingers but resumes its shape as soon as the pressure is released, and nothing creaks. It remains to be seen how the Galaxy Note 4, which now has an aluminum rim while retaining a plastic back, will react under the same conditions.
