10 reasons not to buy the PS5 in 2022

For a few weeks now, many sites have been touting the merits of Sony's PS5 and I think you more or less know all the interesting innovations of this new version. That's why, I decided to focus on what's wrong by offering you 10 reasons not to buy the PS5.

To buy the console to follow the hype of the moment when it is difficult not to succumb and if you are wondering if you would not leave your PS4, PC, Xbox, even your Switch, aside to try the Playstation experience, and know that I have many arguments to discourage you! Yes, because contrary to popular belief, the PS5 is not the perfect console and it even has many more or less serious flaws that I will be happy to tell you about.

#1 – She's really ugly

If beauty is subjective, when it comes to the PS5, I think it's unequivocal. The console is huge, misshapen and its garish colors will manage to clash in almost any interior imaginable. Basically, if you don't have a room dedicated to gaming, you're going to have a hard time finding a place to hide this irreverent white monolith.

#2 – It makes noise

Yes, we were told the opposite, but my PS5 console makes noise. A slight noise certainly, but permanent. Whether with or without a disc in its player. Journalists have recently discovered that different versions of PS5 exist with more or less noisy fans. As luck would have it, the models sent to the press were visibly quieter.

#3 – The price of games

By switching to the 5ᵉ version of the Playstation, Sony is taking the opportunity to slightly increase the price of games that have remained unchanged for many years. This is why some games are now offered at the price of 79.9 euros, or 80 euros which seems to me to be a fairly high psychological threshold.

#4 – Technical problems

In short, I'm not going to list it for you, but everything suggests that both in terms of software and hardware, the console was released in a hurry and this is reflected in the user experience.

#5 – Paid online game

I was already talking about it in 2015, but Sony with its mandatory Playstation Plus to play online, almost requires you to subscribe to this service which we would do well without . If like me, you rarely play online, it's way too expensive for what it is and even if they offer games every month, it's quite rare that they are really interesting.

#6 – The interface is messy

Since the PSP, the PS3 or the PS4, I find the interface of the Sony console completely messy. I've always had trouble getting used to it and for the PS5 unfortunately the formula remains in continuity. On the other hand, this time, with the SSD, the menus and the store are finally displayed in a reactive way.

#7 – It consumes energy

If this element often comes up on the table when we talk about the cloud, or cloud gaming solutions, I just wanted to emphasize the fact that the PS5 console consumes a lot of energy since in a game, it can consume up to 200 watts. You would have to do some scientific calculations to be sure, but it seems to me that it is much more than sessions in the cloud.

#8 – Internal storage

Ridiculous is the word! We hoped to have 1 TB, we are finally told 825 GB and in fact on a brand new PS5 there is only a little less than 700 GB available to install your games on. It's not complicated, I saturated the internal space from the first day when I only installed part of my games.

#9 – The battery life of the controller

Weak point of the Dual Shock 4, the rather mediocre battery life of the controller will have annoyed more than one. Here with the Dual Sense, Sony is reviewing its copy, but the controller will be flat for only ten hours after a full charge. It's a little better, but still below what one would hope for.

#10 – Blu-Ray 3D

If for you a Playstation console is also a Blu-Ray player, be aware that Sony has decided not to integrate compatibility with Blu-Ray 3D. Well, I don't like Blu-Rays or 3D, but since I was having a hard time finding a tenth reason, I decided to use it.

#11 – It cannot be found

Well yes, we are not going to lie to each other, the PS5 cannot be found, so I hope that with my reasons you will be able to do without it more easily.

In short, before validating your pre-order or buying it at 3 times its price on eBay, or Leboncoin, think about all these points in order to buy it, or not, knowingly.
