Here's how to install Windows 11 on an incompatible PC - Tech Advisor

Windows 11 is available to everyone. Microsoft announced its new operating system at a dedicated event on June 24, with a big design overhaul and native Android app support among the biggest changes.

It's been available for download since October 5, but most Windows 10 devices will have to wait until 2022 to get the free upgrade.

However, there is an easy way to get Windows 11 right now on all compatible devices.

Microsoft has updated the hardware requirements for Windows 11. Not all Windows 10 devices will be eligible, as they must meet a new set of criteria. To learn more, see our separate article: Will my PC run Windows 11?

Among these criteria is a processor that supports a TPM 2.0 module. This rules out a lot of older devices, as TPM 2.0 was released in October 2014.

Microsoft has updated its PC Health Check app, it tells you if your device will work with Windows 11; it is available on the Windows 11 website. However, the app may still show that your computer is not compatible, when in fact TPM 2.0 is not enabled.

This can be changed by going to your device's BIOS (or UEFI) settings. Holding Esc, Del or a function key (often F2) while the device is powered on is the most common way to access it, with the TPM option usually described as "PTT" or "PSP fTPM" .

However, even if you don't have a TPM 2.0 processor, don't rush to buy a compatible device. Indeed, there is a way around it, in addition to the 4GB RAM and Secure Boot requirements, but it involves registry changes. As such, we strongly recommend that you back up all your files and other data.

How to install Windows 11 without TPM 2.0?

This method involves setting up a laboratory-like environment. Microsoft will allow device manufacturers to disable the TPM requirement on their version of Windows 11, you will do the same here:

It is important to note that these steps may affect the performance or stability of Windows 11. Proceed with caution and try on a different device than your main PC if possible.
