Google Maps: a new function to “draw” your corrections like on Paint

Google Maps has just introduced a new function called Desktop Road Editor: this allows you to draw missing roads like in Paint.

It was already possible to alert Google in the event of an error on Maps. From now on, Google will deploy a tool to directly correct the error on the map. A function that will certainly be useful outside built-up areas where you can still find yourself with closed roads, a missing cycle lane...

How does Desktop Road Editor work?

Currently, if you try to add a missing road, for example, you need to place a location point where the road should be and enter the name of the road to submit that information to Google. The new tool should make it easier not only to add missing roads, but also to make corrections such as correcting a road name or direction (for example, if the road is one-way but Google Maps says it's not is not the case).

Of course, Google will always check your corrections to make sure they're accurate. After submitting an edit with the new tool, you'll see a screen where Google warns that it doesn't want a bike lane marked as a road, for example. This screen also indicates that it will take approximately seven days for Google to review your submission.

Photos without having to leave a review

Google takes the opportunity to add a function called in French, "Updates of photos". This now allows you to add photos and information about a place (a restaurant, a business, a company, etc.) without having to systematically leave a review. This can be advice or just a few recent photos of the place in question.
