Petit Bulletin LYON - Concerts Lyon: Festival - The period of the Transfer to the Transbordeur - article published by Stéphane Duchêne

Originally, the Transfer Festival had planned to postpone its March 2021 edition, which was very promising with headliners such as Fontaines DC, Shame or The Wytches, to the end of September. But a new health protocol having gotten involved in the summer, the organizers, Mediatone in the lead, preferred to switch the whole thing over to next March, knowing that with this Covid no one is any longer at a postponement, nor within two years, it is one of the things that this health-cultural affair will have taught us. There remained the dates of September 24 and 25 initially chosen and the possibility of organizing something on the side of the summer infrastructure of the Transbordeur, this open air which is used for the Summer Sessions as soon as the summer sun comes out - or when it does not peak not, like this year.

So here it is, Transfer would therefore organize a kind of special edition, with a program redesigned for the occasion. And especially with the help of Cold Fame. Because these fall dates are generally preempted by the booking agency headed by Jean-Noël Scherrer for his famous Mass. Fair play, Mediatone decided to share them with these same Cold Fame for a festival thought of by many: at Cold Fame, to simplify, the first evening, at Loud booking and Malick Fadika, with Mediatone in support, the second. All pinned at the speed of light since all these little people had barely a month to coordinate, make their choices and organize themselves.

In fact, the achievement is not small for anyone who has already dabbled in concert programming. Let's have a look: the opening night — where it is therefore Cold Fame that sticks to it — will logically give pride of place to dark rock, taciturn, black as memory, in short not happy, with the Psychotic Monks, beautiful a band of defrocked natives of the homeland of the Red Star, Saint-Ouen, and which, like the football club, is hardly inclined to compromise. If you like smoky psych rock, this is where it's at.

Weddings

The Monks will be supported by a trio from Toulouse called Slift. Like our dear Lyonnais Scaners, Slift dedicates a kind of cult to space science fiction but exploits it differently through a space rock that is epic to say the least with a heavy atmosphere. The duo After Geography completes the picture with more Brit-pop and therefore necessarily lighter inspirations, as a local exception to the rule of this evening.

The next evening, Loud booking offers a wedding evening. Marriage of styles as far as Crimi is concerned, whose social reason is to mix funk/soul and raï to give birth to the concept of "Soul di Sicilia" (who are we to judge?). Very short marriage then between the punk/post-rock trio Lysistrata, aces of long-distance cavalcades, and François Marry aka François Atlas who here abandons his Mountains to team up with his compatriots from 1-7 (Charente-Maritime in force !). The promised result oscillates between Scottish post-rock and something like grunge – which is both very sharp and very vague. And even if it means betting on marriages as much as one of them is Franco-German, since at the last minute or almost the Teutons of Camera are added to the party.

So much for the two evenings which will, it should be noted, be interrupted on Saturday afternoon by a whole host of festivities intended to share rock'n'roll and its good spirit with the family. With a whole host of workshops (guitar tuning, flash tattoos...) to help children feel like rock stars (which remains their favorite activity), punctuated by a live performance by Theo Charaf who will play for the occasion the alternative Henri Des. And for the Transfer last spring, see you next spring, Inch Allah, it takes place.
